A Lawrence restaurant was broken into and robbed early Monday, police say.
Employees of Ahuvas Grill Express found shattered glass covering the floor, tables and chairs pushed over, and a cash register with over $500 stolen.
A storefront security camera captured a man wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt, gloves and a mask using what appears to be a small, sharp object to shatter the glass door. The suspect then proceeds to rummage through one of the cash registers before eventually running off with it.
The manager of a neighboring business also had surveillance footage, which shows the suspect trying to open the register against a dumpster.
News 12 went to the area seen in the video to investigate and found coins scattered on the ground along with the lid of a tip jar.
Manager of Ahuvas Grill Express Michel Zack says the Middle Eastern kitchen remains open for business despite the incident.
"It's a small business - it's not something that should happen here," Zack says. "But we can't prevent that, obviously."
The suspect fled the scene heading northbound on Rockaway Turnpike.
