Police say they've charged the man who broke into a home in East Hills, then scuffled with responding officers and tried to grab a service weapon before escaping.
As News 12 reported, back on Dec. 5, 2015, officers got a call about a residential alarm at a home on Wildwood Lane. Two officers responded and saw a rear door open, so they began searching the home. The officers found a man hiding in a bedroom.
As officers tried to arrest the man, they say he resisted and tried to take an officer's gun. After a continued struggle, the suspect was able to break free and flee the home. Both officers sustained injuries that were not life-threatening, but one officer was hospitalized.
On Friday, police say 43-year-old Rony Compere, of Huntington, was charged in connection with the crime. He is being charged with two counts of burglary.

Police say Compere was serving time for an unrelated crime and was set to be released when he was charged in connection to the East Hills burglary.
