At least one person was killed Saturday after a small plane crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, police say.
The Coast Guard, New York Air National Guard and numerous police and rescue agencies responded to the scene around 11 a.m. about one mile offshore near Quogue.
The FAA says the Piper PA-34 aircraft departed from Danbury Municipal Airport in Connecticut and was heading to Charleston Executive Airport in South Carolina when it went down. The agency says three people were aboard the plane.
The Quogue Village police chief confirmed that one body has been recovered.
People on the beach reported the plane sputtering before the crash.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash. The cause is unclear at this time.
