A Bellport man has been accused of driving drunk and causing a crash that killed his passenger.

Police say Emmanuel Rivera was driving westbound on Montauk Highway near Old South Country Road in Brookhaven when his vehicle veered off the road and hit a tree around 2 a.m.

The passenger, Arely Garcia, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rivera was treated at the hospital for minor injuries and then charged with driving while intoxicated.

He's scheduled to be arraigned Sunday.
