Police say a man arrested in Freeport was found with a loaded assault rifle, and was driving a stolen SUV that's connected to a homicide case in Virginia.
Police say they were reviewing the results of a stationary license plate reader when they discovered that a stolen 2001 Chevy Tahoe vehicle was in the area. They located the SUV on Pennsylvania Avenue.
The driver, identified as 36-year-old Tremain Williams, of Freeport, was arrested Friday. Police say a loaded M4 assault rifle was found in the car.
Investigators say they later determined that the vehicle was the proceeds of a homicide case being conducted by the Norfolk Police Department in Virginia.
Williams is charged with criminal weapon possession, possession of stolen property, aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and fugitive from justice.
Williams is being held in without bail and will be back in court Jan. 6.
