Police have arrested a teenager in connection with a shooting Friday afternoon near Brentwood High School.
The shooting took place shortly after 2 p.m. on Third Avenue, just a few blocks away from the school. Police say 16-year-old Carlos Argueta shot a 22-year-old man in the abdomen during some sort of dispute.
The incident caused officials to temporarily place the school on lockdown.
The victim was taken to Southside Hospital to be treated for injuries not considered life-threatening.
Students who spoke to News 12 Long Island said they felt uneasy about a shooting taking place only blocks away from their school.
Argueta is charged with second-degree assault, possession of a weapon and tampering with physical evidence.
Police say they are investigating whether the shooting was gang-related.
