Suffolk County police say they have arrested a man in the 2013 murder of Sarah Strobel, whose body was discovered at Froehlich Farm Nature Preserve in Huntington Station.
Fernando Romualdo, 28, was arrested for the murder at Mohawk Correctional Facility upstate, where he was already serving time on unrelated charges.
He is currently being held without bail in Riverhead on a second-degree murder charge.
Someone walking along a path on Oct. 3, 2013 discovered Strobel's body just 300 feet from the road. She was 23 years old.
Sami Love, of Melville, says Strobel was one of her best friends.
"She was going to be my bridesmaid," Love says.
She says she doesn't recognize the alleged killer, but his arrest brings with it a host of emotions.
"I'm very grateful that this person is now behind bars and can't hurt another person," Love says. "But at the same time, it won't bring Sarah back, and nothing will."
