A 79-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck by a car on Saturday night in East Meadow.

Police say the pedestrian was crossing the street just before 7:30 p.m. when a car hit him on Hempstead Turnpike.

The driver remained at the scene while the victim was rushed to a hospital, according to police. He suffered severe head trauma and was pronounced dead.
