A 77-year-old woman died after being struck by two cars as she tried to cross a street Saturday in Freeport.

Detectives say the woman was crossing Merrick Road at around 8:30 p.m. when she was hit by a Honda Accord heading eastbound.

She was hit by a Dodge Durango a short time later, according to authorities. Officials say she was then hospitalized and pronounced dead.

Detectives say both drivers remained at the scene. An investigation is ongoing.
