Police say a 4-year-old girl was critically injured after she and her mother were hit by a bus in Middle Island.

Police say Heather Lee was walking with her daughter Willow and crossing a parking lot entrance on the north side of Middle Country Road.

According to police, that is when the mom and daughter were hit by a Suffolk County Transit bus.

The incident happened just before 7 p.m. Monday when the driver made a left into the parking lot as the they were crossing.

The 27-year-old Shoreham woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Her daughter is in critical condition with head injuries.

The bus driver was not hurt.
