A Port Jefferson woman awoke Monday night to the frantic shouts of a neighbor calling for help.
Mary Fleckenstein says she heard her neighbor knocking on her door, calling for her to call 911 after three intruders broke into his home on Sheep Pasture Road.
Police say three men stormed into the house around 11:50 p.m. and attacked the homeowner. They stole money and a pickup truck before leaving.
Detectives say they believe the victim was targeted and that the crime was not a random act.
He was treated for injuries not considered life-threatening.
Fleckenstein says she's going to be extra careful about locking her doors from now on.
Police say they're stepping up patrols in the area. Anyone with information is asked to call Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
