A Hempstead man is being charged with attempted murder in connection with a violent home invasion in Glen Cove.
Police say Darrin Sims broke into a home on Eldridge Place two weeks ago and shot a 22-year-old man who lives there. News 12 Long Island learned during Sims' arraignment that the victim lost part of his lung as a result of his injuries.
Authorities say Sims and his accomplice David Schuler targeted the house. A few days after the home invasion, the victim's brother was arrested for drug possession with intent to sell. Police don't believe the victim was tied to the drugs.
Sims is charged with attempted murder, burglary and four counts of robbery. He's being held on $1 million bond for the Glen Cove incident, and another $1 million bond for a Massapequa home invasion he's tied to from last year.
Sims is due back in court Friday.
