Police: 27-year-old woman fatally struck by vehicle in Port Jeff Station

Suffolk police say a woman was fatally struck by a vehicle in Port Jefferson Station early Saturday morning.

Suffolk police say a woman was fatally struck by a vehicle in Port Jefferson Station early Saturday morning.
It happened on Nesconset Highway near William Street shortly before 5:30 a.m. Police say a 20-year-old Miller Place man was heading west in a Hyundai Santa Fe when he struck a woman who was walking in the road.
Police say the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. She has been identified as 27-year-old Katlin Catalano. Police say she was homeless.
The driver was not injured.
Police say the vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone who may have information on the crash to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
Editor's note: An earlier version of this story indicated that the driver involved in the crash was 30 years old. Police now say that the driver is 20 years old.
