Police say two people are dead after a crash on the Southern State Parkway.
The road was closed for hours, after the multivehicle crash around 8:30 p.m. Thursday near westbound Exit 21 in Roosevelt.
State police say 19-year-old Herson Gonzalez was driving westbound on the Southern State Parkway east of Exit 21 when his vehicle sideswiped another vehicle.
Gonzalez then lost control of the wheel, struck the center median guide rail before crossing over the guide rail and striking the overpass, police say.
Two passengers in the car with Gonzalez died at the scene - Patricia Ramkissoon, 23, and Elliott Bryant, 23.
Two other passengers were taken to Nassau University Medical Center with serious injuries.
Gonzalez and the front passenger were taken to Nassau University Medical Center for evaluation.
The occupants of the other vehicle were not injured.
The crash is under investigation.
