Police: 2 men killed in Central Islip crash

The crash happened on Suffolk Avenue around 10:50 p.m. Monday.

A man was driving a Honda Accord eastbound on Suffolk Avenue when he attempted to make a left turn onto William Street and was struck by a westbound sedan around 10:50 p.m., according to police.
The driver of the Honda and his passenger, also a man, were transported to South Shore University Hospital and pronounced dead. Their names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The driver of the sedan, a 19-year-old man, was not injured.
A nearby resident told News 12 that the crash woke him up.
"I thought it was some sort of explosion,” said Pablo Mardones. “I was in an accident around the same corner as well and it happens a lot. People go down Suffolk Avenue way too fast.
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
