Police say two people are dead following a chain-reaction crash on the Wantagh State Parkway in Levittown.
According to police, a Nissan Murano operated by Reina Olivera, 33, of West Babylon, was traveling southbound on the parkway when she was rear-ended by a Honda CRV driven by Ana Ramirez, 50, of Lindenhurst.
At that time, police say Nicolas Ramirez, 61, a passenger in the Honda CRV, and Olivera exited their vehicles and were standing in the left lane exchanging information.
Police say a Toyota Corolla, which was also going southbound on Wantagh Parkway, slowed down and was then struck by a Honda Accord.
Police say the Honda Accord then struck Olivera, who was holding her 3-year-old daughter at the time. In addition, police say Nicholas Ramirez was thrown into the northbound lanes of travel, where he was then struck by a Jeep Wrangler.
Lisa Libretti, of Bellmore, says she witnessed the crash and helped remove the child from underneath one of the vehicles.
"The baby was covered in blood. Her hands were bloody and sticky...She was so tiny. It was so sad," says Libretti.
Nicolas Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene, and Olivera was pronounced dead a short time later, police say.
According to police, the 3-year-old child was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in critical condition.
At this time, police say no criminality is involved.
