Police say two men were arrested after being caught stealing cooking oil from businesses across Suffolk County.
Police say Island Empanada in Medford, Dirty Taco in Patchogue, and Harbor Crab were all targeted.
Gregory Smith and Andrew DeMarco are accused of stealing cooking oil multiple times from the locations over the last two weeks.
Officers say Smith drove a rented box truck and emptied the oil into a 500-gallon container, while DeMarco acted as a lookout.
As News 12 has reported, over 5,000 Long Island restaurants had their cooking oil stolen in the last year.
The oil can be reprocessed and sold on the black market as renewable diesel or biodiesel fuel.
