Police: 16-hour standoff ends with man accused of entering Central Islip home with knife

The man was taken to the hospital for evaluation and will be charged with burglary and a parole violation.

Police say a 16-hour stand off with a man accused of entering a resident's home with a knife in Central Islip came to an end Sunday. 
They say a resident on Wheeler Road reported that a man with a knife entered his home Saturday at 11:30 p.m.
Authorities say the resident fled the home before officers arrived. Police say the man then started throwing barbells and a flammable device outside.
Police were able to enter the house Sunday afternoon and remove the unidentified man.
The man was taken to the hospital for evaluation and will be charged with burglary and a parole violation.
No injuries were reported.
