Police say a 16-year-old girl was shot in North Amityville Wednesday night.  

According to police, two groups of females were engaged in a verbal dispute on Cahill Street when one of them fired a shot from a handgun at 8:35 p.m.  

The bullet struck the teen in the leg, police say.  

All those involved in the dispute, except the victim, fled the scene before police arrived.  

The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of a not-life threatening injury.
