A 12-year-old girl was shot in the head through a window in her family's Hempstead home Friday, police say.
The shooting happened at a house on Dartmouth Street at around 5 p.m., police say.
David Joyner, the victim's grandfather, says family members told him that a single bullet flew into his son's home and hit his granddaughter in the head.
Police say she is hospitalized in critical condition.
Investigators say they have not yet identified any suspects.
Hempstead school board president Lamont Johnson also lives in the area and knows the family. He says the girl is a seventh-grader in the district.
