Police say one person was arrested for criminal mischief in connection to two suspected scams on Long Island.

Detectives say a group tried to trick an 82-year-old Greenvale homeowner into paying $20,000 to fix a leaking roof. The male victim eventually asked them to leave and called police.

A short time later, police say a group of males fitting the same description claimed to work for the Roslyn Water District. They told a Roslyn Heights homeowners that she had a damaged roof and they could repair it.

Police say they then spotted the suspects' gold Toyota Hylander on Mineola Avenue.

They say there was a crash, and one suspect was arrested. The other three fled from the scene.
