A proposed plan to install a cell tower in West Islip has been denied by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
The plan called for the tower to be placed at the intersection of the Robert Moses Causeway and Route 27-A ramp.
The state agency denied it, citing community opposition and the impact on historic resources and the proximity to schools.
Many homeowners who opposed to the proposal say that they are relieved.
State Park officials say the developers resubmitted plans to the agency, but they did not alleviate concerns.
