As of Monday, pharmacies are expanding their eligibility, which means more Long Islanders can get the coronavirus vaccine.
On Sunday afternoon, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced pharmacies can start vaccinating those with underlying conditions.
Previously, the sites were only allowed to inoculate New Yorkers over the age of 60 and teachers.
It was announced last week that New York would be getting over 1 million vaccines a week.
Officials are hoping that by expanding the eligibility at pharmacies it will make it easier for residents to get appointments and receive the shots.
But independent pharmacists across the Island are say they're having a tough time getting shipments of the vaccine, in turn making it hard to get through their waiting list. At Vanco pharmacy in Commack, their pharmacist says they've given out about 500 COVID-19 vaccines since the end of January.
"Knowing we have the resources to do vaccinations but going an entire week without getting any and not being able to help people is really very frustrating," says pharmacist Glenn O'Kane.
