Flanked by Nassau and Suffolk lawmakers, Gov. David Paterson on Sunday blasted state Senators for holding up bills because of a prolonged power struggle.
Paterson says the political gridlock leaves in limbo key legislation for Nassau County, including higher cigarette taxes, which would contribute $20 million toward closing this year's budget gap. Without it, County Executive Tom Suozzi says youth programs and social services would be slashed.
Suffolk lawmakers say if the Senate fails to act on a bill calling for a hotel-motel tax, the county stands to lose millions.
