A Patchogue man faces charges for allegedly exposing himself through a window across the street from a day care.

Employees at Long Island Head Start told police they saw 68-year-old Lawrence Gartner expose himself and commit a lewd act Monday.

An employee told police it happened around 2:30 p.m. Police arrested him Tuesday morning. He faces a charge of public lewdness.

Parents nearby offered advice to other parents about how to talk to your child if they had questions about what happened.

"You got to let the kids know that no matter what happens they can tell you everything and hope that they do,” said Tamra Robinson, of Medford. “That's the biggest thing. Let them know that no matter what happens, they can talk to you."

Police did not say whether children were around when the incident happened. Gartner was

released on a desk appearance ticket and will be arraigned at a later date.
