? Brentwood parents signed petitions Saturday asking the governor to restore millions of dollars to improve a state park.
Parents say Governor George Pataki (R-NY) vetoed $6.5 million from the budget that would have been used at Brentwood State Park. Residents say the money is needed to fix potholes, plant grass and install benches, and bathrooms. Parents feel the money would be well spent because children would be off the streets.
A spokesperson for Pataki said the governor had to cut aid to some programs to keep the budget in check.
