Tempers flared during a heated meeting at Bellport High School Sunday.
The meeting was held to discuss the recent lockdown at the school that demanded a police response. Parents and students expressed their outrage at the communication breakdown amid the incident.
"That was my child's life you put in jeopardy!" said Cynthia Bass, parent of a ninth-grader at the school. "I want to know why ? why wasn't I alerted?"
South Country School Board President Gregory Miglino said there were four fights at the school on the day of the lockdown. According to administrators, police were called in as a precaution and the fights were not gang-related.
School officials say they hope to install security cameras inside the school and ask police for help in making a safer institution.
Parents also say they were upset that the school's superintendent did not attend the meeting.
