Suffolk County has implemented a one-lane traffic operation on Smith Point Bridge in Shirley – one week after “structural deterioration” was discovered by inspectors.
The temporary measure will allow the preservation of the existing bridge structure while working toward increasing the posted load limit.
As of Nov. 16 (insert link), vehicles weighing more than 6,000 pounds were restricted from driving over the bridge.
There is no word as of now how long the one-lane of traffic will be in place.
