Officials say a man died in an early morning house fire in Holtsville Monday.
According to officials, officers responded to a home on Pine Street around 4:55 a.m. after a 911 caller reported a fire at the location.
The home's lone resident, Connor Frawley, 32, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A preliminary investigation has determined the cause of the fire does not appear to be criminal.
Fire officials say the fire started in the back of the house close to a wood-burning stove. Firefighters say fighting the flames was a tough task, and not just because there were no hydrants on the block.
"Smoke conditions were bad, zero visibility, search crews very difficult to locate the fire and the victim, but they did both quickly," says Wayne Petry, of the Holtsville Fire Department.
The victim's dog made it out of the house OK and was taken to an animal hospital.
