Officials are set to ask residents Tuesday to approve additional funding for the new Rocky Point firehouse.
Residents approved a $7.25 million bond several years ago to pay for the project. The fire district says that the money has run out, and needs another $1 million to finish the project.
Officials say the project has run into delays and cost overruns in part because of the pandemic. If the bond is approved, the first district says it would cost the average household an additional $17 to $18 per year for the next 15 years.
The vice chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners, Dave Brewer, says the cost of construction skyrocketed by at least 10% since the first bond was approved and the firehouse cannot be complete without additional funds.
The first bond was approved by just seven votes. Voting will be held Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Shoreham substation on Route 25A.
