Suffolk County Legislator-elect Nicholas Caracappa is facing charges in a domestic incident, according to officials.
Caracappa, 53, was arrested on Tuesday at his Selden home.
Caracappa was arraigned on criminal contempt, a felony, and criminal obstruction of breathing, a misdemeanor, related to a domestic incident.
Caracappa had won a special election last month to fill the Suffolk Legislature's 4th District seat vacated by former Suffolk Legislator Thomas Muratore, who died in October.
His attorney Tom Campagna says the charges and allegations are a lie by Caracappa's wife as they are in the middle of a bitter divorce.
The felony complaint alleges Caracappa grabbed and pushed the victim up against a wall, squeezed her neck, and said "if you think you are going to get 50% and give it to a stupid (expletive) I will kill you first."
Caracappa's mother Rose and brother Joe formerly served as county legislators, both rising to the rank of presiding officer.
Suffolk Legislature Presiding Officer Rob Calarco says Caracappa has not been sworn in yet and called the allegations "very serious."
Caracappa is due back in court Jan. 21, 2021.
