Officials: Over 300 guns traded in during gun buy back event in Hempstead

A gun buy back event in Hempstead got hundreds of weapons off the street Saturday.
The buy back was held at the Union Baptist Church. Officials say 188 handguns, 154 rifles and 26 assault rifles were traded in.
In exchange, officials say they handed out more than $63,000 in cash.
Since 2008, Nassau County officials say they've collected about 4,500 firearms through gun buy back programs.
