A house fire Thursday night in Old Bethpage left one firefighter hospitalized with difficulty breathing, according to officials.

The Nassau fire marshal says it began inside the second-floor bedroom of the residence on Round Swamp Road. Flames then spread to the attic.

While the occupants were able to safely escape, the home sustained severe damage.

Officials say the fire was deemed not suspicious.
