Though the unofficial end to summer is just days away, the summer season at beaches on Long Island and across the state is going to be a bit longer.
Nassau, Suffolk and the rest of New York state are keeping beaches, parks, pools, campgrounds and other attractions open through September.
Lifeguards will also be kept on-duty through the end of the month.
Discover Long Island, along with elected officials, made the decision due to summer activities being cut short by the pandemic.
"We're encouraging people to go to the parks - canoeing, kayaking, we have all of these amazing recreational opportunities for people," says Suffolk Executive Steve Bellone.
