Officials say firefighters rescued a dog from a Massapequa Park home during a fire early Sunday evening.
They say the call came in around 5 p.m. from a neighbor who saw smoke billowing from the front door of the home on Lakeshore Drive.
When firefighters arrived, they quickly busted down the door and rescued the canine.
"We were able to force the door very quickly. A couple seconds after that report, we were able to make entry. We did in fact find the homeowner's dog inside the house, but the homeowner was not home at the time," said Massapequa Fire Department Chief William Monjardo.
Officials say the fire started in the kitchen.
There were no reported injuries.
