The Suffolk Marine Bureau and Brookhaven town officials announced a new crackdown on boaters who drink and drive.
Officials say the first boating accident of the year took place last week after a boat slammed into the west jetty at the mouth of the Patchogue River. A passenger was injured during the incident.
The boater, who fled the scene, was later charged with leaving the scene of a boating accident.
Officials are hoping their message will reach boaters and make them think twice before they head out on the open seas.
