Officials announced a major roundup of sex offenders across Long Island Tuesday.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says it has arrested 32 convicted sexual predators on Long Island during a 10-day period ending Aug. 3.
Officials say the individuals all have previous criminal convictions ranging from sex abuse to attempted rape. They include a 24-year-old Salvadorian national who is accused of sexually abusing a 4-year-old girl and a 45-year-old citizen of Trinidad and Tobago convicted of third-degree rape.
ICE says some of those arrested are undocumented immigrants, including nationals from the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Mexico, Peru and Trinidad and Tobago.
Officials say 12 of those arrested during Operation SOAR (Sex Offender Alien Removal) are registered sex offenders.
Each person is being detained during deportation proceedings.
