Police say a 46-year-old man riding a scooter was seriously injured on Thursday night around 11 p.m. after he was struck by a car on Hope Street.

They say he was hit by 17-year-old Stamford resident who was driving a 2011 BMW.

Officers say the impact caused the scooter operator to be thrown from his scooter onto the roadway.

He was transported to Stamford Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the driver of the BMW initially left the scene but ended up parking a short distance away from the accident and walked back to the scene and spoke to officers.

They say no charges have been filed against him at this time.
