History is coming to life at Old Bethpage Restoration Village this weekend.

Visitors to the site are being taken back to the year 1781, and Americans and the British are battling it out in a re-enactment of occupied Long Island during the Revolutionary War.

"After the Battle of Brooklyn in 1776, Long Island was occupied by the British until the end of the war. This history is kind of lost today because Americans don't really want to talk about military occupation here on American soil, but that's really what it was," explains event organizer Pat Mantle.

The event is not just for history buffs -- all Long Islanders can come out to learn about the past.

"We're really preserving and protecting our history. We're bringing the Long Island history and American history that's really been forgotten over the years," says Mantle.

The event was running through Sunday afternoon.
