Health care workers at Nassau Medical Center celebrated the release of their 565th COVID-19 patient Wednesday, but the workers were also in for a surprise themselves.
The NYPD Pipes and Drums band played for the staff to say thank you for their hard work.
"We know what it's like to be under the gun. We had our 9/11. Trying times then, and this is obviously much worse, seeing dead bodies day in and day out," said Pipes and Drums band member Kevin McCarthy.
Hospital staff said the performance was uplifting and emotional.
