Officials say an NYPD officer from Long Island is recovering with his K-9 after they were attacked while making an arrest.

The incident happened on a Manhattan subway platform yesterday.

Cops say officer Vincent Tieniber sprained his wrist.

Tieniber's German Shepherd named Bear was kicked twice in the mouth, suffered two cracked teeth and his tongue and snout were cut.

However, Tieniber says Bear wouldn't let go of the suspect's foot until he could cuff her.

Newsday says Tieniber is from Suffolk County, but they're not saying where.
