An off-duty New York City police officer is accused of pointing a gun at and threatening to kill a male acquaintance of his ex-girlfriend early Friday morning.
The incident unfolded in New York City and culminated in a parking lot at Hofstra University. Nassau police say the off-duty officer, 25-year-old Fahad R. Chaudhry, saw the couple at a club in the city around 3:30 a.m.
Police say Chaudhry followed the two back to Hofstra, where the man was dropping off the woman at her dorm. The off-duty officer plowed through the Hofstra security gates and confronted the man in the parking lot of Estabrook Hall, police say. Chaudhry allegedly pulled out a gun, pointed it at the man and threatened to shoot him. However, as soon as he pulled out the gun, the man knocked it away.
Hofstra security, which was on alert looking for Chaudhry?s car, found the men and arrested the officer after subduing him.
Chaudhry faces up to a year on a menacing charge. He was released on his own recognizance. The NYPD says he?ll likely be temporarily suspended while an internal investigation is launched.
