The NYPD and the Nassau County Police Department announced security plans ahead of New Year's Eve.

NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio outlined the security details Thursday morning.

Officials say there is no direct threat toward Times Square or New Year's Eve, but 7,000 uniformed and plain-clothes officers will be deployed for the festivities. They say they will also be barricading the area to cut off the threat of a vehicle-based attack.

"We'll be deploying sanitation trucks. We'll be using 65 of these vehicles strategically located," says NYPD Chief of Department Carlos Gomez.

The NYPD also says dozens of vehicles are being deployed and there will be security that can't be seen by the naked eye.

In addition, the Nassau County Police Department says it is stepping up patrols with a specific focus on catching drunken drivers.

"Any type of area where there is concern, we will be at that area and we will intensify patrols in that area," says Detective Lt. Richard LeBrun. 

He says while combating drunken driving is the department's primary focus, potential terror targets will be monitored closely in Nassau as well.
