Authorities increased security throughout New York City and on Long Island following explosions at the airport and subway system in the Belgian capital of Brussels.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered stepped-up security from the National Guard, state police, Port Authority and the MTA at airports, bridges, tunnels and mass transit systems in New York City, Westchester and Long Island.
Rep. Peter King, who is the chairman of the Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence, says the increased security and information sharing between the NYPD, Nassau and Suffolk police and the FBI is crucial for the region.
"While there are no threats that I'm aware of against New York and Long Island, that really doesn't matter," he said. "You have to assume there's going to be a threat. You have to assume because of what's happening in Europe that we could be next."
