New York City police officers packed a Brooklyn courtroom Friday as two men suspected of shooting two fellow officers Herman Yan and Russel Timoshenko were arraigned.
Robert Ellis and former Inwood car salesman Dexter Bostic, both ex-convicts, were denied bail because of outstanding warrants. Bostic's warrant was for parole violations, while Ellis' warrant stems from an incident in Queens. The judge's decision was met with applause from officers in attendance.
Bostic and Ellis were extradited from Pennsylvania Thursday, the same day police completed a multi-state manhunt with their arrest. The pair, along with a third suspect, Lee Woods, who was caught Tuesday, were charged with attempted murder.
The trio allegedly shot Yan in the arm and Timoshenko in the face and neck during a traffic stop. Yan has been released from the hospital. The assistant district attorney, however, said Timoshenko remains in grave condition with minimal brain activity.
Ellis and Bostic are due back in court August 3.
