The New York City Department of Transportation says 45 intersections throughout the borough have been "daylighted."

The goal is to remove obstructions like parked cars to improve visibility for drivers and make the streets safer for pedestrians.

The intersection of Neptune Avenue and East 11th Street is just one of the daylighting projects in Brooklyn.

News 12 previously reported in July that a 19-year-old was struck by a car just a block away from this intersection.

News 12 spoke with a woman who worked in the area for 12 years and was struck by a car before the daylighting was implemented.

She says the issue is reckless drivers in the area.

"It doesn't work. It’s the drivers, their not paying attention," she says.

Other people, like Shawn, have parents who live in the area and is more hopeful for improved safety.

"Visibility is a step in the right direction," said Shawn.

Mayor Eric Adams says the goal is to daylight 1,000 locations across the city by the end of 2024, and the city is ahead of pace for that goal.
