Congressman Tom Suozzi is one of Long Island’s most well-known Democratic elected officials. The Glen Cove Democrat has carved out a niche in Washington as co-chair of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus.

Suozzi has heard criticism from Republicans and from the left, including after protesters confronted him during an event at a Roslyn temple over his initial vote to approve Homeland Security funding that included money for ICE.

Danielle Welch is a lawyer and public defender who entered the race late but says it was important for her to step up.

“I decided to get into the race when Tom Suozzi voted for additional ICE funding two weeks after ICE agents murdered Renee Good in Minneapolis,” Welch said.

Suozzi says his record speaks for itself and appeals to voters of all political stripes.
