The New York Islanders helped kids gear up for the new school year Saturday.
The Isles partnered with local nonprofits to give out 1,000 backpacks to kids in need.
Each backpack was filled school supplies like folders, notebooks, pencils, and a water bottle.
"It's so important going back into the classroom, that kids have the tools they need to actually sit down and work in the classroom. So for us to be able to provide these items, I think we're really making a difference in starting off the school year right for these kids," said Ann Rina, New York Islanders Community Relations director.
Kids also took home some face masks, hand sanitizers and balloon animals.
