A committee in the state Assembly announced they are ready to issue subpoenas in the impeachment inquiry into Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Assemblyman Michael Montesano says those subpoenas will be issued to people who, so far, have not been willing to come forward voluntarily.
It’s unknown how many will be issued, but they'll have to appear before the committee and give testimony under oath about what they know.
Montesano, of Glen Head, says the judiciary committee voted unanimously Wednesday in Albany to issue subpoenas for a number of witnesses and documents as part of its investigation into what he says is a bipartisan look into alleged misconduct by a sitting governor.
Since the Assembly first launched its investigation looking into the possible impeachment of Cuomo in March, it has received more than 100,000 pages of documents that include emails, texts, letters, photos and personnel records.
The committee is investigating the nursing home deaths during the height of the pandemic, Cuomo's $5.1 million book deal, the sexual abuse and misconduct allegations from multiple women and the Tappan Zee Bridge project.
