The New York attorney general has reached a settlement with Nassau jail's health services company.
Armor Correctional Health Services has agreed to pay $350,000 and will not bid on future contracts for three years in the state.
The settlement resolves a lawsuit filed by the attorney general in July, alleging Armor failed or underperformed obligations and placed the health of inmates in jeopardy.
In a statement Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos says the sheriff's office must learn from the "Armor experience."
"The sheriff should now move rapidly to find a new health care vendor with proven experience in providing the mandated health care services for inmates in a cost-effective manner," says Maragos. "The sheriff must also institute closer oversight of the new vendor's performance and at all times verify that all its medical accreditations are current."
